Consultation has concluded

Stormwater management facilities are designed to capture stormwater runoff from roadways and adjacent properties and improve the quality of the water before releasing it to a natural watercourse. This is achieved by capturing the water in the facility for a desired length of time allowing sand, salt, and other pollutants to settle to the bottom. Over time, the sediment accumulates to a point where removal is required to reinstate design functionality and storage capacity for large storm events.

Great care has been taken to identify wildlife, including protected species, living in and around the facility. Any required relocations will be undertaken by a person licenced with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The Municipality of Central Elgin has retained the services of Matrix Solutions Inc. (formerly EcoSystem Recovery) and Lancoa Contracting Incorporated to undertake this rehabilitation project. Matrix Solutions Inc. has been responsible for the engineering design, sediment analysis testing, ecological review, and erosion and sediment control plan for this project. Matrix Solutions will have an inspector on site along with Municipality staff for construction inspection and to assist with any resident concerns.

After much scooping, drying, and hauling, the Little Creek Stormwater Management Facility has been cleaned out. After 3 days of hauling, over 600m3 of stored sediment has been removed from site accumulated over the last 18 years. With this, the project now proceeds to the restoration phase to re-vegetate the site. In the coming weeks you’ll see crews bringing in topsoil, and spraying seed specially formulated for stormwater management ponds. These seeds will re-naturalize the area with appropriate plants for birds and pollinators.

Your continued adherence to the ponds closure is appreciated and we will update you when the area resumes for public use.

Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this project!
