The Municipality of Central Elgin received $425,000 as part of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Community Building Fund to add an accessible elevator, dehumidifier, and evaporative condenser to the Belmont Community Centre and Arena. The Municipality has retained the services of Spriet Associates Limited who were responsible for the original building design and 2004 arena addition to design and administer the contract for a new accessible elevator which will meet the new AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) standards to fully comply with the latest Ontario Building Code. Tonda Construction has been retained as the Constructor and approved by Council to complete the construction of the new elevator anticipated to be completed July 2023.

At the completion of the project, the Belmont Community Centre Hall will be full accessible as is required by 2025 for AODA compliance.

Due to the construction and safety of the public, the Community Centre Hall will be closed throughout the duration of the project and is anticipated to be completed by July 2023. No disruptions are anticipated within the arena and the work area will remain consolidated to the northwest corner of the building.

Why not do it during spring/summer time when hall is less utilized??

M Frost asked over 1 year ago

The Belmont Arena and Community Centre improvements are paid for in part by the Ontario Trillium Foundation as part of the Government of Ontario. Upon acknowledgement of our successful funding application, Central Elgin hired an architect to design the new elevator. Due to the funding requirements mandated by the Trillium Foundation, costs could not be incurred before May 1, 2022 and the project must be completed by April 30, 2023. This has therefore dictated our construction schedule to be the Fall and Winter of 2022 with Summer 2022 being the time to design the elevator
