Construction on the Sunset Road Sanitary Sewer Extension has been completed.
The Municipality of Central Elgin will be completing a sanitary sewer extension project along Sunset Drive starting at the end of May. The contractor working on this project is R Russell Construction. This project will be located at the east side of Sunset Drive from the East Road intersection to about 600m south. The tentative start date is May 22, 2020 (weather permitting). The project is estimated to be completed by July 30, 2020.
The project scope involves extending the existing sanitary sewer from south of Dick Walters Auto Service to the north side of East Road to provide service for the new Port Stanley Fire Station and future connection to the Sparta sanitary pump station. The sanitary sewer will be installed under East Road by trench-less methodology.
During construction, R Russell Construction will manage truck traffic along the east side of the Sunset Drive. Orange construction signage and traffic barrels will be used to direct traffic according to the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 - Temporary Conditions. East Road will remain open at all times. At least one driveway access to the Shell Station and Dick Walters Auto Service will be available at all times. The bike and pedestrian lane on the east side of Sunset Road will be closed for a limited period during construction.
